Hey guys! I bet you all had given up on me, hadn't you? [Assuming anyone still even subscribes to this feed or checks the site]

I moved back to New Orleans (from Dallas) this past September and, after getting settled back into the groove of the Big Easy, I think I'm ready to reboot this podcast. I'm definitely going to go for shorter episodes, hopefully (finally!) get to that weekly schedule I've always wanted, and maybe make it more of a "Lisa's List" type of thing, just hitting the top pop culture media that has captured my attention since the last episode. I'm still mulling it over, but I figured if I bit the bullet & posted this update to the site, I would be more motivated to just start recording again.

So, what do you guys think? Good idea? Bad idea? Do you even still care? Please sound off in the comments. Oh, and if you have any ideas of what you'd like to hear in the podcast, I'm totally open!

Hypersensitive Remembers Joe

April 1, 2009 marks two years since the passing of podcaster, Joe Murphy, after a battle with leiomyosarcoma. In his memory, the Joe Murphy Memorial Fund prepared a Tribute Podcast last year in which some of the most recognizable voices in podcasting shared their thoughts on how Joe touched their lives. Unfortunately, I came too late into the world of podcasting to have known Joe Murphy; but the legacy he left behind ensures that his memory will live on well into the future of podcasting and audio entertainment in general. The first season of Angel Between the Lines deals with the summer between AtS Season 3 and Season 4. Join the gang as they deal with Angel and Cordelia's disappearances and stick around for the season finale: Angel - the musical! (We're not even kidding). This season consists of 12 episodes and a lot of surprises along the way.

Angel Between the Lines is an audio drama that takes place between the seasons of Angel the TV show. We have a cast/crew from all around the world (so you do NOT need to be in Los Angeles to audition). There are many roles that we’re casting (not just the ones that we have audition lines for). Just a little update ...

Just wanted to let you guys know the status of the podcast. I am on a temporary hiatus right now due to all the traveling I've done in the last couple of months and the computer issues I am currently dealing with. I will try my best to get the second part of Episode 9 edited and up on the feed over the weekend, and I hope to be getting a new laptop in the next few weeks and will be able to resume recording and producing episodes (and hopefully at a faster rate) when that happens.

Child rapists can't be executed, Supreme Court rules

The U.S. Supreme Court ruled 5-4 Wednesday that child rapists cannot be executed, concluding capital punishment is reserved for murderers.

I'm not sure how I feel about this. Intellectually, I agree that capital punishment should be reserved for murderers - the whole, eye for an eye thing and upholding the Constitutional prohibition against cruel & unusual punishment. However, instinctively, it is hard for me to believe that, short of executing child rapists (or pretty much rapists in general) there is really no way to guarantee that they will never be released into society *at some point*, and a release into society will certainly lead to repeated attacks because I am a firm believer that there is no rehabilitation for just plain *evil* people like that.

I can also understand the argument that having the same consequence of the death penalty for both rape and murder removes any incentive for an attacker to leave a rape victim alive. But, seriously, how many rapists are really thinking about that during an attack? "Well, if I leave her alive she might be able to identify me but, hey, at least I can't get the death penalty for this."

Wow, I can't believe I might actually be in support of an Alioto/Scalia/Thomas/Roberts opinion. The world MUST be coming to an end ...

Episode 008 - The Episode That Didn't Want To Be Aired

Okay, folks. Here it is. The next (once again) long overdue episode of Hypersensitive! I had a lot of problems with this episode - I lost the edited version of the episode not once but TWO times thanks to the combination of Audacity and my craptop computer, and then had problems uploading to my FTP once the episode was finally "in the can." Podcast Delays

Sorry for the delay with episodes 7 & 8. I recorded Episode 7 about a week and a half ago and was hoping to get it uploaded to the podcast feed before I left on vacation last Friday (May 16th). Unfortunately, I've been having laptop problems and my upload attempts all day last Thursday were unsuccessful. I am now back from vacation and am still having laptop issues that I hope to resolve this weekend. I will be uploading Episode 7 as soon as I can and will record and upload Episode 8 soon thereafter. Again, I apologize for the delay and hope you'll stick with me while I try to sort out my crazy laptop issues! Thanks!

Speed Racer = Fun

I feel really bad that Speed Racer didn't do very well at the box office this weekend. I stopped by the Movie Tavern near my apartment on my way home from work last night on a whim to see Speed Racer and I actually enjoyed it. Although some of the plot elements were a little hard to follow (mostly because the pace of the movie is so fast), it was very visually appealing and I thought it did justice to the cartoon that was one of my favorite TV staples as a child. If you're looking for a "fun" movie, I highly recommend checking out Speed Racer.

A Geek's Guide to Summer Movies

Entertainment Weekly has posted "A Geek's Guide to Summer Movies" and I had to share!

1. INDIANA JONES AND THE KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL (May 22) - I'm not even gonna describe this one. If you don't know the deal, and don't already have a less-gainfully-employed friend holding your space on line, then you're not a real geek, and we can't even go any further.

2. THE MOTHER OF TEARS (June 6) - No, I don't know what this is about, and I'm a little too lazy to look it up (hey, my eyes are sleepy from GTA IV), but it's directed by Italian horror maestro Dario Argento — which automatically makes it worth investigating.

3. THE HAPPENING (June 13) - M. Night Shyamalan has a lot to answer for, after the floater that was Lady in the Water. The trailer for this Mark Wahlberg ''eco-thriller'' looks like he may be ready to make amends.

4. THE INCREDIBLE HULK (June 13) - Yes, from what we've seen in the most recent trailer, this looks like The Banner Identity. And the CG Hulk still looks a little rubbery. But I'll give Edward Norton the benefit of the doubt and check it out. (It's gotta be better than the last Hulk movie...right?)

5. GET SMART (June 20) - Could be drop-dead hysterical. Could be another stillborn TV-show revamp. Either way, it gives us another chance to gaze on the brunette wonder that is Anne Hathaway, so we're all good.

6. WANTED (June 27) - Okay, I didn't understand a blessed thing that was happening in director Timur Bekmambetov's Nightwatch Russian sci-fi flicks. But they looked marvelous, and I'm hoping that look — layered over a story, about bad-ass assassins, that makes sense — will make this Angelina Jolie-James McAvoy-Morgan Freeman flick a comic-based film to reckon with.

7. HANCOCK (July 2) - Will Smith as a homeless superhero trying to get his crap together? Sold.

8. HELLBOY II: THE GOLDEN ARMY (July 11) - Guillermo del Toro is an honest-to-goodness artiste who just happens to really dig comics. I remember talking to The O.G. himself, Owen Gleiberman, about the first Hellboy movie and he said something to the effect of, ''Say what you will about what the movie's about, it's abundantly clear that del Toro is a real filmmaker.'' So, yes, go see.

9. THE DARK KNIGHT (July 18) - Yes, please.

10. SPACE CHIMPS (July 18) - On the title alone. But only after seeing The Dark Knight.

11. THE X-FILES: I WANT TO BELIEVE (July 25) - I really, really want to believe that this David Duchovny-Gillian Anderson sequel is better than the title.

12. THE ROCKER (August 1) - Rainn Wilson can do no wrong. Okay, that ''home skillet'' line in Juno was almost a criminal offense, but not his fault. Here, he's playing a middle-aged dude who becomes the drummer of a high-school band. Which sounds like the makings of a fine night of comedy.

13. THE MUMMY: TOMB OF THE DRAGON EMPEROR (August 1) - I think we can admit to ourselves that this one probably won't be very good. But Brendan Fraser does have a certain goofy charm, and Jet Li's the bad guy (probably, unless they make him the misunderstood antagonist — which is just lame enough to probably be what's going on). **Note - I am, however, a bit disappointed that Rachel Weisz isn't reprising her role as Evelyn. I mean, I adore Maria Bello but it will be weird to see a different person in the role.

14. PINEAPPLE EXPRESS (August 8) - Seth Rogen + James Franco + pot-ty humor = the awesome.

15. TROPIC THUNDER (August 15) - While my tolerance for Ben Stiller can run hot and cold, a couple of people here have already seen this one, and we're singing its hosannas. Plus: Robert Downey Jr. as a black dude!

16. STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS (August 15) - One can only hope that this CG sequel isn't another opportunity for fond Star Wars memories to be dashed by the Lucasfilm machine. We can dream, can't we?

17. BABYLON A.D. (August 29) - Here's the thing: As a geek, there are just some movies you're honor-bound to see. And Vin Diesel as a post-apocalyptic courier transporting a hot diseased lady through the danger zone? Yes, you must go, or we take away your membership card.

Iron Man - RDJ is my new imaginary celebrity boyfriend

So, I went to go see Iron Man last night. By myself, I might add, because apparently my roommate and his friends went to see it yesterday afternoon without inviting me. But, whatever ...

LOVED it! I'm not going to say anything more about it other than I think the casting was amazing and Jon Favreau did an awesome job directing a comic book superhero movie. Who knew? I mean, don't get me wrong - i adore Jon Favreau - but wasn't so sure he could pull off the superhero thing. And, oh yeah, it made me remember once again how much I am in love with Robert Downey, Jr. - something I seem to have forgotten since the last time I watched Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang or Good Night, and Good Luck. You people need to keep reminding me of these things - that's what I pay you for isn't it? *cough*

I also followed the advice of all my Twitter friends and stayed through the (amazingly long - or was it just me?) end credits to watch the additional scene (which my roommate and his friends didn't know about and, consequently, missed - HA!), but I have to admit I'm probably going to lose some Geek Cred because I didn't understand what it meant. I mean, it was cool and everything - but I was totally confused as to why it was so important. So, I had to come home and Google it. So, yeah, I'm sure I just totally lost a lot of my Geek Cred (if I even had any to begin with). It's just that I don't really know anything about comics. Anyway, thanks to my best friends Google and Wikipedia, I found the answer HERE. **SPOILER WARNING - the end of this Wikipedia entry is a SPOILER for the post-credits Iron Man scene, so DO NOT CLICK IT UNLESS YOU WANT TO BE SPOILED!!!

And a big "YAY" to me finally getting to see a movie in the theater!! I think the last movie I saw in the theater was Jumper - so it's been a while. Hopefully, it won't be quite so long before my next trip to the theater ...

ETA: Actually, I rememberd that I saw Vantage Point in March, so it's only been 2 months since I last saw a movie in the theater ...

Buffy Between the Lines Contest!!

And for my awesome readers/listeners who write fanfic ...

Hi guys! Between Season 1 and Season 2 of Buffy Between the Lines we have a couple months off, but we didn't want our fans to be wanting so we've devised the first Buffy Between the Lines fanfic contest! All accepted submissions will be recorded and featured on the Buffy Between the Lines podcast and the winner will receive a SIGNED copy of "Infected" by Scott Sigler, as well as a limited edition SugarShock poster and some other goodies we have tucked away in the Between the Lines Studios vault.

If you're interested in participating here's the rules:

Fanfic must be based on Buffy Between the Lines Season 1 and remain true to the TV and audio drama (this rules out non-canonical pairings and AU, we'll save that for the April Fool's episodes)

Fanfic must not be posted elsewhere until after the contest.

Fanfic must be between 1,500 - 3,000 words and must have a clear story (beginning, middle/climax, end)

Entries must be received by May 10th, 2008. Winner will be announced at the start of Season 2 (in August).

Please email your entry to buffybetweenthelines[at]gmail.com with "Fanfic Contest Submission" as the subject line. Entries can be within the email or attached text/Word files. Please no .docx files.

Because you can never be TOO obsessed with Buffy ...

One of my favorite podcasts is the podcasted audio drama Buffy Between the Lines, which is a serialized audio drama depicting what might have happened between the seasons of my favorite TV show Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I've never really been into fanfiction, so I was a little hesitant to listen to this podcast at first but, once I did actually listen to it, I was hooked. The writing and acting are so amazing, listening to it always gives me chills. It's the next best thing to having new episodes of BtVS on TV!!

Anyway, several weeks ago I answered the Buffy Between the Lines season 2 casting call and submitted auditions for a few of the season 2 characters and -- guess what? I found out this weekend that I will be playing one of my absolutely favorite characters in season 2, Cordelia Chase. Hence my new shiny LiveJournal icon. :)

Season 1 of Buffy Between the Lines is still ongoing (they are on episode 9 and there are 12 episodes in the season), and there will be a short hiatus between seasons 1 and 2 to give the S1 crew a bit of a break, so it will be a few months before you get to hear my years-in-the-making Cordelia impression. But, that gives those of you who may not yet have listened to this fabulous podcast the chance to catch up on season 1.

I'm really really excited to have the opportunity to work on this podcast and hope that I can do justice to the wonderful character of Cordelia! Yay!!!

Check out Entertainment Weekly's Top 30 Under 30: The Actors and Top 30 Under 30: The Actresses. I agree 100% with the actresses, but think the actors list could use a little tweaking. I mean, Zac Efron is cute and all, but he has zero personality to really have a future in anything other than the High School Musical franchise; Chris Pine I could take or leave (for pretty much the same reason - the only reason J.J. Abrams cast him as Kirk in the new Star Trek movie is because he is a doppelganger for a young William Shatner); and Channing Tatum, really?? I really think they should have replaced those three with HP's Rupert Grint (I thought his performance in Driving Lessons was outstanding and clearly showed he has talent far beyond the role of Ron Weasley) and Heroes' Noah Gray-Cabey (Micah), and Thomas Dekker (Zach, from season 1, now John Connor in The Sarah Connor Chronicles).

Quick Oscar Notes

I am going to try to post a bit more on this from work tomorrow (my laptop is acting a bit wonky this evening), but I just wanted to say how happy I am that Diablo Cody won for best original screenplay for "Juno!" That was the only category I was really passionate about this year (even though I was hoping Ellen Page would also win for Best Actress, I figured she didn't have a shot with the amazing competition she was up against), and she far and away deserved that award. I'm glad the Academy felt the same!!! Also, how cute were the "Once" couple who won for best song???? I cried when they won and cried again when Jon Stewart had the girl come back out on stage to get her speech in. How sweet!!!!

Okay, going to bed now....

2008 SELF Challenge - Day 1

Even though I stayed home sick from work today with a terrible sinus migraine, I was inspired to register for the 2008 SELF Challenge and am very optimistic about actually following it this year and hopefully losing weight and generally feeling better about myself. I am constantly feeling tired and sick (more so lately than in the past) and I am hoping that living a healthier lifestyle can counter-act that. We shall see how it goes ...

I am at work and I feel miserable. However, I am heavily medicated (I have copious amounts of robitussin, dayquil, claritin and halls cough drops running through my body) so that makes it a little bit better. And I'm eating yummy chicken noodle soup from Schlotzky's Deli.

Sinus Relief

I have had allergy and sinus problems all my life, but they seem to have gotten worse since I moved to Texas (I am pretty sure it has to do more with my roommate and his friends smoking inside our apartment than the geographic location) and have been pretty much a constant issue since around Thanksgiving. I have been completely miserable on a daily basis for several months, getting temporary relief with the use of my Walgreens-pharmacist-recommended Vicks Sinex Nasal Spray which, contrary to its 12-hour relief claim, helps for only an hour or so after use and cannot be used more than twice in a 24-hour period (which I know from personal experience because using it more than that makes me really shaky and jittery). So, after being basically bed-ridden because of sinus problems for most of last week and the preceeding weekend, I finally went to see my friendly neighborhood Walgreens pharmacist again (because that is much easier than going to the doctor for a lazy and increasingly agoraphobic person such as myself) who suggested using a Vicks Waterless Vaporizer and sleeping with it next to my head and "tenting" my covers (pulling the covers up over my head basically). I have been doing this every night for the last 5 nights and I cannot tell you what a difference it is making! I feel 100 times better than I have in months, and every morning I wake up feeling even better than the day before. I am crossing my fingers that I have finally found the "miracle cure" I was looking for. And with a box of 6 refill vapor pads costing less than $5.00 (actually, they are $3.64 at Wal-Mart), it is a pretty cheap miracle cure at that! I just thought I'd share this info with anyone else who may be having sinus issues. Anything to help my sinus-suffering comrades.

BTW, I have not received any compensation for my endorsement of Walgreens. This help from Walgreens is just the latest in a long line of reasons that it holds a special place in my heart ...

OMG - MMC!!

Wow. I am such a nerd. So, yesterday at work a few of us were talking about shows we used to watch as a kid such as Kidd Video, Jem, Kids Incorporated, etc., and we found clips of a bunch of them on YouTube and I started getting all nostalgic about coming home from school and watching Kids Incorporated and The All New Mickey Mouse Club on the Disney channel (even though I was probably a little beyond their target age group as I was a freshman/sophomore in high school when MMC was on - but whatever). I was still thinking about it on the way into work today, so when I got here I looked up MMC on Wikipedia. That made me remember the group "The Party" that 5 of the cast members started (and I'm only partly ashamed to admit that I owned 2 or 3 of their CDs in high school) and that I had a huge crush on Damon. So I clicked on his link to see what he is up to now and found that he and Albert (one of the other members of "The Party") have started some new hip hop project and have a page on MySpace! So of course, I checked that out and friended them! Sometimes I really can't believe what a huge dork I am. But, that's why y'all love me, right?

Ok, guys. I am working on the first official episode of my podcast and I'm looking for some volunteers to help me with some sound-bite type things I want to use to kind of separate different parts of each episode and/or just mix things up a bit. In case you want to check out the really crappy intro episode and have the podcast website address for future reference, you can check it out here:

I need some people to record the following phrases in WAV or MP3 format and email them to me. If you would like to help out but don't have the capability or know how to make such a recording, email me and I will send you my cell phone number and you can leave the phrase or phrases you want to be a part of on my voicemail. If you would like to do more than one phrase, you can combine them all on one WAV, MP3 or voicemail - just leave a few seconds of dead air in between each phrase. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask.

Here are the phrases:

Fall 2006 TV Schedule Ramblings

Considering TV is pretty much my biggest passion in life, I thought I'd review some of the new shows on the networks' fall schedules that piqued my interest after the up-front announcements ...

VANISHED - FOX, Mondays @ 9:00 PM ET/PT - Looks interesting. Undertones of "Alias." And I absolutely ADORE Gale Harold!!

STANDOFF - FOX, Tuesdays @ 8:00 PM ET/PT - Not a very unique premise, but the description says it has "the relationship banter of audience favorites like 'Moonlighting,'" which is sorely missing from my TV repoirtoire. I also really like Ron Livingston. And, HELLO, Gina Torres!!!! I have to support my Big Damn Heroes in their new shows!!

JERICHO - CBS, Wednesdays @ 8:00 PM ET/PT -- This sounds like it could be very a very interesting social commentary. I'm curious to see what they do with the basic premise of a completely isolated small midwest town (I'll definately be keeping my hometown - Pekin, IL - in mind while watching). Plus, you know, it's always a plus to get to watch Skeet Ulrich for an hour ...

THE NINE - ABC, Wednesdays @ 10:00 PM ET/PT -- Sounds like "Lost" without all the supernatural/conspiracy stuff. I'm interested. And I'm very excited to support Scott Wolf -- I'm very relieved to see that he's working again ...

SHARK - CBS, Thursdays @ 10:00 PM ET/PT -- Freaking JAMES WOODS!!! I would watch this show even if it was about a guy sitting in a chair reading a newspaper! But it's about LAWYERS!! A defense attorney becoming a prosecutor!! L.A.!!! Spike Lee directing!!!! If this show isn't amazing, then I might just lose faith in everything that television stands for ...

SIX DEGREES - ABC, Thursdays @ 10:00 PM ET/PT -- Hm, looks like I'll be Tivoing this one (conflicts with "Shark," above). Apparently, they decided the underlying stories on "Lost" worked so well that they split that idea into 2 seperate shows! This one is from JJ Abrams himself, so there is a good chance it will be worth watching. Again, interesting premise. Good cast - Jay Hernandez, Campbell Scott and Erika Christensen. We'll see what they do with it...

BETTY THE UGLY - ABC, Fridays @ 8:00 PM ET/PT -- I'm a huge fan of America Ferrera, so I'm excited about this one! And it sounds like there might be hints of "The Devil Wears Prada," which is one of my all-time favorite books!!

DAY BREAK - ABC, mid-season -- Sounds interesting, like "24" meets "Groundhog Day" perhaps? If they can keep it more like "24" and less like "Groundhog Day," it might be worth watching. Again, gotta support my Big Damn Heroes (Adam Baldwin)! And, you know, Taye Diggs is always fun to watch ...

SURVIVOR - Open Casting Call in Baton Rouge!!!

There's an Open Casting Call in Baton Rouge on June 10th from 1-3 PM at Gerry Lane Chevrolet on Florida Blvd.!!!

An Open Casting Call is an event your local station holds for SURVIVOR. When you attend an Open Call, you will fill out an application and be put on camera there. You do not need to bring your own tape, and you do not need a copy of your passport. Open Calls alleviate the headaches and expenses of making your own tape, transferring it to VHS format and mailing it.

These events are also lots of fun. Meet fellow SURVIVOR fans, make some new friends, enjoy. Your local station will send the tape directly to the casting department, where it will be watched by the casting team and the same as it would be if you sent in an individual tape yourself.

In between projects at work today, I looked up the blogs (or blawgs) of a couple of speakers from this Legal Technology seminar (CLE) which I attended earlier in the week. The first is Jim Calloway's Law Practice Tips Blog, which was very informative but contained a lot of information he covered at the seminar. I added his RSS feed to my Google Reader so that I can keep up with his future posts. The second is Ernie the Attorney, a blog posted by Ernie Svenson, an attorney who left a large New Orleans law firm to open his own practice after hurricane Katrina. He was one of my favorite speakers at the CLE, and his blog is immensely enjoyable! His most recent post about the outcome of the mayoral election gave me a little more hope than I had before (while at the same time increasing my sadness over Mitch's loss). Anway, reading those -- and other -- blogs today motivated me to create my own ('cause I'm not at all convinced that non-livejournal users take livejournal seriously).
